Honoring Mothers Everywhere May, 9 2010

Mother's Day is May 9, 2010 this year in the United States. It's a great day to pay tribute to Moms, and to honor women. This passage from Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation seems very fitting;

In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask 
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality
May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
And at the earliest period consistent with its objects,
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.

It was Julia's belief that woman had a responsibility to shape societies politically. While strides have been made since Julia wrote her proclamation, women are still under represented as elected officials. For poor woman though, political aspirations are pushed aside by the need to survive and provide for their families. That's where you come. There are many programs out there run by dedicated hard working people who are changing the dynamics for the poor, many of whom are woman. These organization provide various kinds of support poor woman need to help their families, By helping woman become  
 self-sufficient, these organizations are paving the way for the fulfilment of Julia Ward Howe's belief.

Empowering people and lending them a hand does society a lot of good. We all win when the playing field is level and equal opportunity is provided for all.
